Item Strategies Adopted By Deposit-Taking Savings & Credit Cooperative Societies In Managing Change: A Survey Of Saccos In Nairobi, Kenya(Journal of African Interdisciplinary Studies,, 2023-06) MAKHONGE, FREDRICK WANJALA; Mathuva, Eric; Mwongera, IreneStrategic management is centered on the alignment of strategy and environment. Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies must contend with uncertainty and competition in their external environment. Therefore, to remain relevant, they must be aware of the changes in the environment in which they work and respond to various environmental factors. This study set out to identify the strategies used by deposit-taking SACCOs in Nairobi to handle change. This was a descriptive study. The target population was 330 managers from Nairobi-based SACCOs. Using stratified random sampling, 30 percent of each group's members were selected for each sample. As a result, a sample of 99 respondents was obtained for this investigation. The investigation was conducted using primary data gathered through questionnaires. After gathering questionnaire responses, the researcher used descriptive and inferential statistics to analyze the quantitative data. Product diversification, rebranding, and member participation strategies positively and significantly affected the change management efficiency of deposit-taking SACCOs. Product diversification strategy, rebranding strategy, and member participation strategy significantly are key strategies used by Deposit-taking SACCOs in navigating through the ever-changing business environment. The study recommends that the management of deposit-taking SACCOs should strengthen their change strategies.Item Influence of Strategic Innovation on Corporate Reputation Management in Microfinance Institutions (MFI’S) In Machakos County(Journal of African Interdisciplinary Studies, 2021-08) Kioko, John; Mwenda, Paul; Mathuva, EricThe objective of this research was to investigate the influence of product innovation on corporate reputation management in Machakos County microfinance institutions. This is important in order to understand and evaluate strategic innovation which can be understood as reinventing or redesigning an organization’s corporate strategy in order to promote company growth, provide value for the customer and the company, and achieve a competitive advantage. .n order to achieve the study's purpose, the descriptive sampling technique has been used in a research study. Population target of the study comprised of all the Microfinance Institutions (MFI’s) licensed by the Association of Microfinance Institutions of Kenya (AMFI-K) as at 31st December 2019. There are (15) fifteen licensed MFI’s by AMFI- K. All the selected MFI’s were included in the study with the respondents being all the selected Branch managers, team leaders and operations officers. The total respondents therefore were forty-five (45). The main methodologies were questionnaires, which were self-administered by the researcher and yielded an 82.2 per cent response rate. The research showed that product innovation and corporate reputation management had a good and significant association. The study also indicated that process innovation and corporate reputation management had a favorable and substantial (P-Value=0.000) association. Furthermore, the findings demonstrated that market innovation and corporate reputation management had a favorable and substantial (P-Value=0.000) link. Finally, resource innovation and corporate reputation management had a favorable and substantial (P- Value=0.000) association. The study therefore concluded that Product Innovation, Process Innovation, Market Innovation, and Resource Innovation all have a positive and significant impact on company reputation management based on the findings. This has forced secondary school administrators to involve parents while preparing students for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Parental involvement influence student’s natural talent, improves behavior, increase classroom attendance and promotes classroom compliance which affects the student`s academic performance. In this study, investigation on parental involvement in public day secondary school performance in Thika West and Gatundu North Sub-Counties, Kenya, was done. The study was guided by the Ecological Systems Theory with the use of descriptive research design. Teachers and students in the public secondary schools in Thika West and Gatundu North Sub-Counties were targeted. Questionnaires were used in this study. Demographic data and research questions were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Tables were used for the representation of data obtained in this study. The relationship between dependent and independent variables were analyzed using linear regression. Ethical issues were adhered to during the study. The study showed that good parent- student communication is a prerequisite for high academic achievement. In conclusion, schools which adhered to students’ performance management policies showed higher academic performance. The study recommends that school administration should involve parents in preparation of calendar of events defining the role of parents in their children’s academic performance. In addition, counseling department should be reinforced to deal with students problems that emanates from parents. School administrators and policy makers should make efforts to have open forums for parents, teachers and students in order to be able to interact with each other and communicate schools` expectations to parents and parents to be given a chance to express their viewsItem Factors Influencing Value Addition among Fish Traders in Mombasa County, Kenya(International Journal of African Business Studies (IJABS), 2020-09) Mahmud, Swaleh Sheikh; Mathuva, Eric; Mwenda, Paul KirigiaAlthough there exists enormous benefits that can be linked to value addition, many fish traders in Mombasa County still sell unprocessed fish and fish products. The resultant losses are due to spoilage attributable to perishability of fish and losses of additional income for lack of processing. The study was on factors influencing value addition among fish traders in Mombasa County. The specific objectives was: to determine the influence of infrastructure on fish value addition. The research employed a descriptive research design and a census methodology. The target population was 76 registered fish traders involved in fish business. Structured and semi-structured questionnaires were employed. Quantitative and qualitatively analysis using frequency table proportions (percentage) was used to interpret the data, inferential statistics was used to analyze the data. The study established that the infrastructure =.376. p<.001) has significant causal effect on fish value addition in Mombasa County. It was concluded that support towards enhancement of infrastructure is necessary if value addition is to be uplifted. The County government is an important player in ensuring that trade policies are pro- business and especially towards ensuring that they work for up scaling of fish value addition. The study recommends that state and non-state actors should come in through infrastructural development to assist fish traders to embrace and enhance uptake of fish value addition. Government agencies should re-look at the existing policies, guidelines and regulation relating to fisheries industry to ensure they are provalue addition. Fish traders should increase their internal capabilities by adopting modern technologies and equipment to enhance fish value addition activities.Item Effects of Innovation of Transport Technology on freight transport firms’ performance in Mombasa County, Kenya(International Journal of Scientific Research and Innovative Technology, 2020-03) Panga, James Benjoma; Mathuva, Eric; Egondi, PatrickThe study sought to evaluate the effects of innovation of transport technology (SGR) on freight transport firms’ performance in Mombasa County. The study established that performance in Mombasa County was affected by haulage capacity, speed and risk of the innovated transport technology. The analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social sciences (version 21). The findings 25.5% of the variation in freight firms’ performance was explained by changes in haulage capacity, speed and risk. Ceteris paribus haulage capacity affected performance by β=0.140 (α<0.05), speed β= -0.017 (α<0.05), and risk β= -0.347 (α<0.05). F- Significance p-0.039ᵇ implies a probability of 3.9% occurrence of false information. Haulage capacity positively affected performance with a small margin whereas speed and risk negatively affected performance. Therefore technology negatively affected performance. The management should formulate structures, operations, policies and strategies to align their business operations with the current dynamics in order to enhance their performance.
