    Role of Focus Strategy On Organization Performance in Four and Five Star Hotels in Nairobi County, Kenya

    This work looked at the role of focus strategy on organization performance in four and five star hotels in Nairobi County, Kenya. The study was guided by McKinsey 7S Model. A descriptive research design was adopted with a target population of 66 general managers and assistant general managers of four and five star hotels in Nairobi County, Kenya. A census survey was used in the study. Data collection tool was questionnaires. Descriptive included mean and standard deviation, while inferential statistics included correlation and regression were used for analysis of quantitative data. Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23.0 was used for data analysis. This study may be significant to the management in five star hotels in Nairobi County since it could complement efforts around formulation and deployment of appropriate plans to realize institutional goals, and secure relevance in the current dynamic business world. The study findings revealed that performance of four and five start hotels in Nairobi County, Kenya was significantly related with focus strategy. Focus strategy had positive influence on performance. The implication of these findings is that managers in four and five start hotels in Nairobi County, Kenya need to adopt focus strategy, which would positively contribute to performance. The study’s recommendation was that, the level 4 and 5-star hotel leaderships ought to recognize and utilize generic plans towards the enhancement of organizational success. According to the study, the leadership of Nairobi’s 4 and 5-star hotels plays a key contribution in the provision of advisory, knowledge and important data to the organization’s processes thus placing the organization in a strategic position competitively.

    Impact of Local Politics on Performance of Hospitality Industry:

    When organizations are formed, they attempt to operate in a style that meets the needs of their immediate environment. Despite that, some organizations operate in a manner that can lead to conflict with the communities in which they operate. Nonetheless, there is scarce empirical confirmation on the relationship between local context and performance of organizations. This study wanted to determine the relationship between managerial cognition of the local context and performance of hospitality industry. Specifically, it sought to assess the impact of cognition of local politics on performance of star-rated hotels in Kenya. A mixed-methods survey of 450 managers from 150 hotels categorized into 3, 4, and 5-star hotels was conducted using structured questionnaires while an interview guide was used to collect data from 12 key informants in the hospitality industry. Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS software version 26 and null hypotheses tested using binary logistic regression model results. It was found that cognition of local politics did not significantly influence the odds of performance. Based on these findings, it is concluded that local politics significantly influence organizational performance. It is recommended that the hospitality industry takes into account local politics in strategic decisions.

    Organizational Characteristics and Communication Effectiveness of Solar Companies in Kenya

    The solar energy sector has been performing poorly in recent years. This poor performance has been attributed to factors such as making poor decisions, implementing inadequate strategies, and ineffective communication. Managers can perform their duties and responsibilities through effective communication. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between communication practices and the effectiveness of communication in solar companies in Kenya. A descriptive research design was adopted for this study through which information from demographic groups was gathered. A sample of 293 respondents drawn from a target population of 1224 was surveyed using a structured questionnaire to collect data. Data analysis was done using SPSS on both descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The study revealed a β=-2.179, Wald =31.683, df=1, which is associated with a p-value of 0.001 and Exp (B) = 0.133 for the Communication channel.It is concluded that communication channels significantly influence the odds of communication effectiveness in solar companies in Kenya. It is recommended that the solar companies use reliable and high-speed communication channels to enhance communication effectiveness among solar companies.

    TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF STATE CORPORATION IN KENYA.

    Leadership is vital in the overall performance of any organization. The leadership chosen is dependent on various contingent factors. The environment influences the link between leadership and performance. The combination of the various factors contributes to the leadership selected which influences the performance of the organization. Over the past three decades, transformational leadership has emerged as one of the predominant paradigms to understand leadership efficacy. Transformational leadership theory is based on the concept that certain leader behaviors transform followers' values, needs, preferences, and aspirations, and motivate them, “to perform above and beyond the call of duty”. Transformational leadership has gained extensive attention in the literature research because of its potential proposition for the performance of the organizations. Research indicates that this type of leadership can collectively influence workforce performance and loyalty leading to improvements in the workers motivation and creativity. In consideration to the past decades research findings and strength this forms the foundation for this study research on the importance of transformational leadership through its four constructs; idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration and their influence on organizational performance in fifty five state corporation in Kenya with commercial and strategic functions. A total of 257 surveys instrument questionnaires were distributed with 235 retuned and 215 were suitable for use. The data was analyzed using multiple regressions method with a significance level of p < 0.05. The measurement instrument used was on five likert scale ranging from strongly disagree as 1 to strongly agree as 5. The results indicate that while transformational leadership and three of its constructs; inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration contributed to 78.6 percent of the variation in organizational performance; idealized influence was moderately a significant factor contributing to the study outcomes. Top Leadership management may need to focus on these constructs of transformational leadership to improve performance of the organizations understudy.
