Item Influence of Recruitment and Selection on Diversity Management among State Corporations in Mombasa County(The Strategic Journal of Business & Change Management, 2019-07) Ali, M. A.,; Mathuva, E.,; Mwenda, P.The study sought to assess the influence of recruitment and selection on diversity management among state corporations in Mombasa County. The study involved selected major state corporations with head quotas in Mombasa County. The study was anchored on resource based theory which focuses on the resources of the organization. The study adopted a descriptive research design and targeted 137 employees in the human resource department in the five selected state corporations in Mombasa County. Sample size consisted of 35% (48) of the target population. Structured questionnaire containing a five pointed Likert scale were used. Introduction letter was obtained from Kenya Methodist University and a research permit from the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI). Permission to collect data was sought from the selected state corporations. Data collected was edited and sorted for completeness and analyzed with the help of statistical package for social sciences (SPSS version 22). Descriptive and inferential statistics frequencies and percentages as well as tables and graphs were used to present the analyzed data so as to facilitate a clear interpretation of results and assist in drawing conclusions. Due diligence was observed during the course of the study. Study results indicate that recruitment and selection influence diversity management and there exist a strong positive relationship (r=0.545) between recruitment and diversity management. The study concluded that recruitment and selection influence diversity management and has a strong relationship. The study recommended need to formulate and implement favorable recruitment and selection policies as this will help influence the diversity management.Item Relationship between Employee Career Development and Employee Retention among State Corporations in Mombasa County(The Strategic Journal of Business & Change Management,, 2022-05) Ali, M. A.,; Kirimi, E.; Muema, W.The study focused on the relationship between employee career development in Mombasa County (coast development authority, Kenya bureau of standards, Kenya coast water services board, Kenya maritime authority, Kenya ferry services and Kenya marine and fisheries research institute). The study adopted pragmatism research philosophy. The study adopted cross-sectional survey research design. The unit of analysis comprised of managers and all the employees of the 6 state corporations operating in Mombasa County. The population for this study encompassed the human resource managers and the employees of the 6 state corporations operating in Mombasa County. The 6 state corporations cumulatively had 293 employees. The study used Yamane method in calculating the sample size which ws 169 respondents. The study adopted mixed methods in selecting the study respondents. The study first used purposive sampling method to pick the HR managers in the 6 state corporations. The study then used simple random in selecting the other 163 employees working in various department. Data was collected using questionnaires and interview guide. Questionnaires were targeted to the employees obtained from the data sample while the HR managers utilized the interview guide. Stata software version 16 was utilized to perform analysis of descriptive and inferential statistics. This comprised of frequencies, tabulations, and percentages. Logic regression was used in inferential statistics. The results of the analysis showed that career development is significantly associated with employee retention in state corporations in Mombasa County. The study recommends that, in order to ensure employee retention, the public sector should fund some of the courses undertaken by its employees by compensating the full or partial cost of the course. The public sector should also offer equal opportunities to all its employees to further their studies and after an employee acquires extra knowledge, the organization should align their new knowledge with the available relevant responsibilities in the organization. The current study was cross-sectional in nature. Future studies should thus concentrate on longitudinal techniques that allow for data collection at many points. Future research should include other entities other than state corporations.Item Relationship between flexible working arrangements and employee Retention among State Corporations in Mombasa County(The Strategic Journal of Business & Change Management,, 2022-11-12) Ali, M. A.,; Kirimi, E.; Muema, W.The focus of the study was the relationship between flexible working arrangements and talent management in Mombasa County state corporations (coast development authority, Kenya bureau of standards, Kenya coast water services board, Kenya maritime authority, Kenya ferry services, and Kenya marine and fisheries research institute). A variety of theories were employed in this investigation, including the path-goal leadership theory as well as theories based on equity, role theory, component theory, and the work-family boundary theory. The study adhered to the research philosophy of pragmatism. The research design utilized in this study was a cross-sectional survey. The six state corporations functioning in Mombasa County comprised the unit of analysis. Human resource managers and staff of the six state corporations in Mombasa County were included in this study. 293 people work for the six state corporations collectively. The sample size of 169 people was calculated using the Yamane method. The study used variety of ways to choose participants. First, purposive sampling was employed to select the six state firms' HR managers. The researchers then randomly selected the remaining 163 individuals working in diverse departments for the experiment. A questionnaire was used to collect data from the employees of state corporations operating in Mombasa County. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the aid of SPSS version 26. Descriptive statistics involved the use of frequencies and percentages while inferential statistics involved the use of logistic regression. The results of the analysis revealed that there is a correlation between employee flexible working arrangement and employee retention in state corporations operating in Mombasa County. The study recommended that in order to promote employee loyalty to the organization, managers of state corporations should develop and support flexible working policies and procedures that include time constraints and time autonomy policies. Proper performance measurement, as well as clear communication of policies, are essential for effective implementation. It is vital to evaluate and monitor the success of such regulations, as it is possible that certain employees will abuse such policies. Employee commitment, job satisfaction, and reduced turnover are predicted to rise as a result of a successful implementation
