    Role of Middle Level Management in Strategy Implementation among Insurance Companies in Kenya

    Middle level managers have a significant role in organizational strategic outcomes and happenings particularly that of implementation of strategy. Middle level managers collect and collate information, organising it intelligibly pursuant to matters relevant to organizational strategy making it the foundation for strategic decision-making. Middle level managers are able using their previous experiences to discern if their efforts are successful or not. The study was to establish the role of middle level management in strategy implementation among insurance companies in Kenya. Specifically, the study sought to establish the effect of championing alternatives, synthesizing information, facilitating adaptability and management of operational effectiveness on strategy implementation among Kenyan insurance firms.The study using the stratified random sampling technique achieved a sample population of 189 management staff in insurance companies in Kenya. To gather primary data, self-administered questionnaires were utilized. The validity of the research instruments was then checked using content and construct validity. Upon receipt of the responses from the questionnaire, the quantitative data as collated was analyzed with the help of descriptive statistic and represented, means, frequencies, standard deviations and percentages. The research established the relations between the dependent and independent variables by application of multiple regression analysis. The research similarly adopted the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. The outcomes were presented by the use of tables, graphs and in prose-form. The study found that communication and interpretation of strategies and organizational plans and objectives affected the strategy implementation in the organization to a great extent. The study found that evaluation of information provided affected the strategy implementation among insurance companies in Kenya to a moderate extent. The study found that supervision and monitoring of activities, plans, and work output improve productivity and efficiency in their organizations to a very great extent. The research further found that placement of resources in line with the needs affected the strategy implementation among insurance companies in Kenya to a moderate extent. The study concluded that championing alternatives (β=0.738, p=0.000<0.05) had the greatest effect on the strategy implementation among insurance companies in Kenya, followed by management of operational effectiveness (β=0.622, p=0.000<0.05), then synthesizing information (β=0.412, p=0.000<0.05) while facilitating adaptability (β=-0.539, p=0.000<0.05) had the least effect to the strategy implementation among insurance companies in Kenya. The study recommended that the middle level management be included in the planning process of the strategy. This move would significantly increase the chances of the success of strategies as it creates ownership and control of the process by the said middle level managers and cultivate a marked desire to see through the process to ensure the strategy succeeds. The study in addition recommends that certain elements of the implementation process should be highlighted with specific reference to communication of the strategy to all stake holders; recognition of the staff challenges during implementation and appreciation of the staff morale and motivation during the process. Middle level managers as bridges between operational staff and top management, including other stakeholders need as of necessity to be allowed direct access to the core organisational decision making personalities or organs in the organisation. This will enable them to obtain authoritative updates on issues raised by operations staff.

    Effect of Organization Culture on Strategy Implementation among Energy Generation Firms in Kenya

    A successful strategy execution is critical for an organization's success. Organizations, on the other hand, fail to implement more than 70% of their strategic initiatives. This is ascribed to bad organizational culture, because successful strategy execution necessitates the participation of a supportive organizational culture. The study's main goal was to determine the impact of organizational culture on strategy execution in Kenyan energy producing enterprises. The study's particular aims were to evaluate the influence of dominating features on strategy implementation among Kenyan energy generation enterprises; and to investigate the effect of organizational communication, employee management, and organizational glue on strategy implementation among Kenyan energy generation companies. A descriptive research design was applied in this study. The target population was 493 comprising of management staff and section heads from head offices of Vivo Energy Company, Kengen, Kenya solar energy limited and Kenya power limited. The sample size was 128. Primary data was collected through the use of structured questionnaires, because of the nature of the variables where the opinions, perceptions and feeling of the respondents were sought. The study instruments were distributed among the targeted respondents using various points of reference like the managers of departments. The returned questionnaires were checked for consistency, cleaned, and the useful ones coded and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) computer software. After collecting data responses from the questionnaire, the researcher analyzed the quantitative data using descriptive statistics by applying the statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS V.25.0). Inferential data analysis was done using multiple regression analysis. Findings were presented in tables. According to the findings, the firm has information and communication systems in place to assist strategy implementation. Furthermore, the study discovered that formal processes regulate what people do. According to the findings of the study, written communication is the most commonly employed mode of communication in Kenyan energy-generating enterprises. The study did not determine whether staff implemented plans on time. The study also discovered that performance evaluations are not utilized to choose people who would engage in plan implementation. The study discovered that senior management has a significant effect on strategy execution and has enormous power over the firm. The study concluded that dominant characteristics had the greatest impact on strategy implementation among Kenyan energy generation firms, preceded by organizational glue, employee management, and organizational communication, with organizational communication having the least impact on strategy implementation among Kenyan energy generation firms. The research proposes that energy generation enterprises increase organizational leadership in order to promote effective strategy implementation, since it has been proven to favorably affect successful strategy implementation. There is also a requirement for organizational members to have a sense of belonging to the firm and a work structure that is aligned with the organization's overall goals.

    Determinants of Strategy Implementation in Mandera County Government

    The main aim of the research was to establish the determinants of strategy implementation in Mandera County Government. The goals of the research were: to determine the influence of top management commitment, individual responsibilities organizational culture and communication in of Mandera County Government. The research was directed by The McKinsey 7-S Model, Co-Evolutionary Theory and Mintzberg's Model. The target population included Senior Management Staff, Middle Management Staff, and Lower Management Staff. Thus from the above the target population composed of 58 respondents. The research used census technique; the data collection instrument that was used to collect data from the selected respondents includes the questionnaire. The data was organized, edited, analyzed and interpreted using descriptive statistics. Study used the computer programmer SPSS version 23 and Regression model to analyze the data. The results were presented using frequency tables, percentages and charts. The research findings indicated that top management commitment, organizational culture, communication and individual responsibilities would have a significant influence on strategy implementation in Mandera County Government. The study recommended that leadership needs to support the strategy implementation of the county government in order to enhance efficiency and improve performance and that management offers financial support to increase implementation of strategies which is crucial on improving performance. There is also need for the management to be very keen in making strategic decisions necessary in improving the county government in strategy implementation. The financial budget should be allocated every year to implement various strategies that are necessary on the improvement of county government performance. Lastly the study recommends that there is need for increased involvement in decision making process at either the departmental level or top management level to determine strategy implementation in Mandera County Government. There is need for the county government to adhere to the set out guidelines on strategy implementation necessary for the improvement of strategy implementation. The staff should work intensively together with the management to ensure that the staffs are motivated to realize the county governments’ strategies for improved performance. There is also need for the county government to align its strategic plan with the organization mission and expected performance targets.The study recommends that there is need for improved communication in order to increase the strategy implementation in Mandera County Government by ensuring that all are included in the communication process in order for easy implementation of the County strategy. On the other hand there is need for the county of Mandera to maintain an active and operational website and internet services in order to strategically enhance communication for effective strategy implementation. The county government needs to train its’ employees to enhance the employees IT literacy for efficient, timely and effective service delivery.

    Effect of Strategy Implementation on Quality Service Delivery of Mission Hospitals in Meru County, Kenya

    The operations within a workplace or organization that are planned to facilitate the achievement of strategic plan are referred to as strategy implementation. Strategy implementation incorporates functional areas such as management of information, human resources, accounting and marketing. The strategy selected would in a big way influence the quality of services delivered in mission hospitals. This study therefore examined the association between implementation of strategy and service delivery quality among mission Hospitals in Meru County. The research determined the effect of management structure, the influence of financial capability, the effect of human resource, the influence of communication on quality service delivery of mission hospitals in Meru County. The theories that underpinned this study were resource-based view theory, contingency theory and strategic fit theory. Descriptive research design was adopted. Both primary and secondary data sources were used. Secondary data were obtained from published scholarly sources, while primary data was collected using questionnaires. The target population was one hundred twenty-eight (128) respondents from the mission hospitals in Meru County. A pilot study was conducted at Chuka Mission Hospital in Tharaka Nithi County to test reliability of the research instrument. The questionnaires were distributed to one person in each category making a total of eight questionnaires. SPSS version 23 was used for analysis. Descriptive statistics were generated and results inform of tables and percentages tabulated to enhance understanding of study variables. The study utilized Karl Pearson's coefficient of correlation to describe the association among the variables. This aids in forecasting the strength of the relationship between dependent and independent variables. The study findings revealed existence of positive and significant relationship between management structure (P=0.11<0.05, r=0.357), financial capability (P=0.021<0.05, r=0.234) human resource (P=0.034<0.05, r=0.418) and communication (P=0.039<0.05, r=0.321) on quality-of-service delivery of mission hospitals in Meru County. The study recommended partnerships with mission for essential drugs and supplies (Meds), county governments and others to offer regular trainings of the employees in order to equip them with the right skills and attitude to enhance competence and quality service delivery. Also, recruitment and selection of quality and adequate staff, in order to improve healthcare provision to patients so as to improve quality service delivery.
